Program & Admissions Requirements

Designed to empower educational professionals who support and teach STEM students to approach their work through an equity lens to broaden participation of underrepresented students in STEM.


  • Submit an  for the Graduate Certificate online 
  • Applicants must have received a bachelor鈥檚 degree with a minimum 3.00 GPA from a regionally accredited college/university and must submit all official college-level transcripts. Applicants who studies outside of the United State must submit official transcripts and a course-by-course evaluation for US equivalency. 
  • A personal statement that addresses the applicant鈥檚 motivation to pursue this certificate program and goals for applying new knowledge to their work environment
  • Experience working in an educational setting

Learning Outcomes

The following goals will be achieved:

  • Determine the origins of systemic racism and systemic oppression in the United States and its impact on underrepresented racial minority students in STEM.

  • Identify how unconscious bias manifests in STEM disciplines and implement strategies and practices to counteract implicit biases in the STEM classroom.

  • Adapt and implement policies, practices, and behaviors to provide equitable opportunities for growth, contribution, advancement, and a sense of belonging in the STEM classroom.

  • Implement accountability measures and routines to assess and reinforce equity and justice in the STEM classroom.

  • Use an anti-racist lens to develop a project proposal in an area of practice that includes, but is not limited to, teaching, scholarship, advising, or service.
