Description

The Graduate Assistant will support the implementation and ongoing development of 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Campus Sustainability initiatives, including coordination of efforts related to the University鈥檚 Climate Action Plan (CAP).

Under the direction of the Director of Campus Sustainability, the Graduate Assistant will assist with:

  • Supporting Climate Action Plan implementation through data collection, organization, and basic analysis (e.g., energy, waste, biodiversity, and related sustainability metrics).
  • Assisting with sustainability reporting and documentation to support institutional tracking and communication.
  • Drafting short sustainability-focused articles and media content for campus communication platforms, under supervision.
  • Supporting management of Campus Sustainability social media platforms to increase student and community engagement.
  • Assisting with planning and logistical coordination of sustainability-related events, including communication, reminders, scheduling, and follow-up.
  • Helping facilitate coordination between Campus Sustainability and relevant campus stakeholders involved in CAP-related initiatives.

This position provides the graduate student with hands-on experience in sustainability program coordination, institutional reporting, and campus engagement within a higher education setting

Description

The graduate assistant will gain hands-on experience with applied educational research, program evaluation, and AI-related innovation. These skills are highly marketable across higher education, research, and technology-focused fields. Specifically, we expect the graduate assistant working on these projects will develop: qualitative research skills (e.g., interviewing, focus group facilitation, transcription, coding), quantitative research experience (e.g., survey administration, data management, basic data analysis using SPSS), project coordination and implementation skills, experience working with emerging AI tools in academic contexts, professional communication skills through collaboration with faculty, administrators, and students, and experience contributing to institutional reports and, possibly even, research posters or papers. These competencies will strengthen the assistant鈥檚 resume for careers in education, research, program evaluation, educational technology, and/or student success initiatives.

Students who wish to apply for an assistantship must submit a:

  • Completed Graduate Assistantship application
  • Current resume/curriculum vitae
  • Letter of intent*

*Your letter of intent should include your professional qualifications, reasons for applying, and your expectations of that experience.

Please submit all materials (either hard copy or electronically) to Heather McCarthy by May 15, 2026  at her contact information below.

  • Full admittance into a master鈥檚 degree program at 黑料不打烊 (required)
  • Bachelor鈥檚 degree in an appropriate field (required)
  • Minimum 3.0 graduate GPA (required)
  • Minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA (preferred)
  • Students may not have more than one graduate assistantship position at a time
  • Enrolled in at least two graduate-level courses each semester (preferred)

     

Award Information

Graduate assistants are awarded up to two tuition vouchers per semester (fall and spring) when classes are in session (excluding winter sessions) for Continuing Education Graduate Classes (held during the evening, Saturdays, or online). Course vouchers are not transferable and cannot be applied to most practicums, internships or directed/independent studies (see Heather McCarthy for clarification on this)Vouchers do not have cash value except towards tuition. Vouchers cannot be applied to any other fees incurred by the student (e.g., books, additional student fees). Vouchers should be submitted with your registration. Vouchers may not be applied retroactively or utilized at other colleges or universities. Expiration dates cannot be extended. Tuition remission is considered a financial resource in any financial aid award. A stipend of $2,500 is received each semester and there is a mid-year review from your assistantship sponsor.

Note: Students will be asked to fill out a CORI/SORI form if selected for an assistantship.
